I've been noticing recently that headwear is coming back in fashion. For instance, at the Fall/Winter 2009 RTW Dolce & Gabbana show, they cleverly made gloves into headresses, as seen at the left (picture: style.com). This is a trend that I am very excited about.
A few years ago, when I was shopping at Galleries LaFayette in Paris with my best friend, we found these matching headbands that, at the time, felt so sophisticated and chic. We purchased them, thinking we would wear them out one night to a fabulous restaurant and make a statement. They are simple headbands with big green leaves attached much like the gloves to the Dolce & Gabbana headgear. Alas, we have never found occasion to wear our headresses. Now I feel as if I can pull my decorative headband out of it's bag and perhaps actually get to wear it in the future.
I've always admired the exquisite work of milliners such as Phillip Treacy (go to philliptreacy.co.uk to check out his wildly wonderful designs). This also may be one reason why I have always felt as if I should have been born English- I would be perfect wearing a large, fancy hat at Ascot. It's in my blood. I am not suggesting that I could get away with wearing the Treacy explosion that the fabulous SJP wore to her Sex & the City premiere (at right, picture: irishtimes.com), but something simple and elegant such as the smaller Treacy pieces below would be fine for me (picture: fashionpolice.net).
Another idea came when I was browsing my beloved etsy.com. Not only have I been a repeat shopper, I also have my own jewelry wares listed on this brilliant website that showcases independent designers such as myself. Etsy endorsement is for another time- here I would like to show a few beautiful headpieces that I just found on buffalump.etsy.com. The designer seems to have gotten the memo about headwear coming back in fashion. Here are some examples:
These make me think of the Romans, with their laurel wreaths. Don't we all deserve to show how important we are as individuals? A nice eccentric hat or headband could do the trick.
